When did Tocantins become a state?

Tocantins became a state of Brazil on October 5, 1988, following the promulgation of the new Brazilian Constitution. It was created by the separation of the northern part of the state of Goiás.

The decision to establish Tocantins as a separate state aimed at promoting regional development and better governance.

Since its inception, Tocantins has played a significant role in Brazil's agricultural and economic landscape, with a focus on sustainable development and environmental conservation.

The state is known for its diverse ecosystems, including the Jalapão Desert and the Araguaia River basin, attracting both nature enthusiasts and researchers.

Over the years, Tocantins has evolved into a distinct and vibrant state, contributing to the cultural and economic richness of Brazil.
